Performance Series Pans are made on 24 1/2″ diameter Solid Hoop Barrels, from 16 gauge steel (compare traditional pans at 22 1/2″ on 18 gauge steel).

The significantly larger barrel allows for the notes to be sized so that it becomes possible to tune Fundamental, Octave, Fifth, and Second octave on the low register notes (this is not possible on a traditional pan where the notes are undersized and the second octaves may be as much as a third sharp of the correct pitch).

Couple the correct sizes with thicker steel, and the end result is a pan with a very broad dynamic range that wont bend or bark at higher playing pressures.
